Music Of Haveli: A tour to Rajasthan's havelis
While travelling alone through the Rajasthan desert you can hear the music created by the wind, like the Sound of silent wave’s .The only other sound we can hear in the desert is the music of 'Ravanhatta' instrument played by Bhoppas. They are the street musicians of Rajasthan. Ravanhatta means the hand of Ravan, an ancient demon. This is similar to violin except the string is made of horse tail.
Noon time at jaisalmer, I reached at the 'Padwon ki haveli ' is known as the scenic mine of Rajasthan. In front of this I met sree ram, a street ravanhatta musician who is selling this instrument. Haveli is the royal homes of millionaires and merchants .Jaisalmer was the main gateway to south Asia. Merchants in here were very strong in both wealth and politics. Padwon ki Haveli is the biggest and beautiful place in Rajasthan. Square and rectangular shaped rooms, two open spaces inside and outside of the home. Outside space was for merchant’s official matters and inside space is for women. Attached to this, we can see bedrooms and kitchen.
Entering inside the home, we can see treasure boxes and silk-woollen mats. In each room we can see lot of wall paintings which can of different types. It is the mixture of Rajaputra-Mugal architecture. Roofs are made of multi coloured glass, each room has wooden sculptures. Royal bedroom consists of golden and silver coloured mattress, Hand fans, old gram phone etc. Near to it is the beautiful dressing room. Finally reaching the 5th floor we can see lots of pigeons.
Similar to this haveli two other havelis are to be seen, called Najmal ji ki Haveli and Saleem Singh ki Haveli. Saleem Singh was the prime minister of Jaisalmer. This Haveli is near to the royal jaisalmeer palace.
This place gives a royal feeling and you will be refreshed with the music of Ravanhatta.
Getting in their:
